A leading economic news media firm, EDAILY and a high-caliber fund assessment consultancy, KG Zeroin in South Korea will co-host the Global Alternative Investment Conference (GAIC 2023). Since the first conference in 2019, GAIC has established itself as a hub for institutional investors in South Korea and global asset management companies, commemorating its 5th year celebration this year.
In 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic, meetings were conducted via online. Even in the second half of last year, although it was switched to a face-to-face event, even shaking hands was still not yet allowed as the pandemic had not been completely gone. It was a time when we realized how valuable to have a venue to meet, exchange business cards, share ideas, and strategize together.
This year, in 2023, as we are out of the fear of Covid-19 and returned to daily routines, we see a renewed sense of comfort and confidence in being able to safely hold a face-to-face event.
Nonetheless, those who devise investment plans appear to be not too easy at all. The liquidity released into the market in reaction to the Covid-19 crisis has eventually led to inflation, and governments around the world began to control prices through rapid interest rate hikes.
Last year, for the first time in 50 years, liquidity in the market rapidly decreased, resulting in a decline of both stocks and bonds along with traditional assets. As a result, numerous global institutional investors experienced negative returns. However, those that have increased the proportion of alternative investments have been advocating to increase investment in alternative assets, presenting with their relatively strong performances.
Alternative investments is also challenging. In the aftermath of sudden increase in interest rates, the Silicon Valley Bank in the US declared bankruptcy, and comparatively sizable banks including Credit Suisse Bank were also shaken. With financial market instability and asset price volatility on the rise, formulating an investment strategy has become more difficult. Moreover, there are cases where aspects that have been officially employed are no longer applicable.
This year's theme is 'Alternative Investment-Rewrite the Playbook'. In this New Normal era, we seek to create an environment in which we can analyze both domestic and international investment climates, and share strategies for to secure steady profits while managing risk effectively.
Now that we have returned to our daily lives, we'd like to invite you to a place where you can meet in person and share your thoughts and ideas, not via video conferences.
Thank you for your continued interest and support.
